Throwback Thursday...

This is me and my great grandmother, Myrtle. She out lived my grandmother and she was a really special lady. She died when I was 11 years old. She lived with us pretty much my whole life until she died. She took me to church and I'm sure that's where we were headed when this photo was taken.

This tree stayed with my family for many many many years. My grandmother bought it at a dime store when it was just a tiny potted plant. It grew and grew and grew into a beautiful tree. Some years, it was our Christmas tree. It lived until just a couple of years ago, and it died. I was very sad. For some reason this tree was very special to me. I grieved the loss of it, much like I would a loved one. This tree, this living thing that had really been a part of my family for longer than I had been alive. It was always there, every time we moved, it was in the back of the truck, wrapped up in a sheet to protect it. This is the only photograph I think we have of it and I have searched for another one for many years, without success.
