Roses anyone??

Ashley tagged me a while back to tell this story. And well, I think enough time has passed that it may be safe for me to disclose just how I got all the beautiful rose petals that were thrown at my wedding reception exit.

I hinted at it in this post. But Ashley felt it deserved a better spotlight, and I'd have to agree. You see, months before my wedding when I began the preparations...you know, the dress, the other dresses, flowers, photographer, cake, etc... All those things you must do in advance. I had decided that instead of rice or bird seed or bubbles, that I wanted rose petals thrown as we left the reception. I had seen this done at someone's wedding and I absolutely loved it. It was a smaller wedding than mine, but I thought it would still work for mine.

So, as I told those around me this idea, EVERYONE told me "oh, that'll be so easy to do." Everyone I knew and some I didn't know proceeded to tell me that Flower shops and florists would just GIVE me their "spent" or "blown" roses. The ones that were opened up too much for them to sell. Everyone kept saying, "like the week before your wedding, call up a bunch of shops and tell them you want their spent roses and they'll just give 'em to you."

So, like an idiot that is what I did. I just took everyone's word for it. I went on the several month journey of planning a wedding and left that detail to the week before my wedding. I had no backup plan, I just rested in that it's what everyone told me!

My best friend Ashley comes up for the whole week before my wedding to help me with those last minute things that can't be done until then. She stayed the entire week with me and was SUCH a huge help! Anyway, we proceeded to do things like, get my bridal portraits taken, buy the food for the reception, freeze punch ingredients, dumpster dive for rose petals, decorate the church, ball melons.

Yes, you heard me correctly. DUMPSTER DIVE FOR ROSE PETALS. Let me explain.

On the Monday before the Saturday of my wedding, I did what everyone told me to do. I called EVERY florist and flower shop in the phone book in a 5 city radius. NO ONE was willing to just GIVE me their spent roses. They wanted me to BUY them. Gosh, that's a marvel idea--a flower shop wanting to SELL flowers?? Who ever heard of such a thing!

Not only did they want me to buy them, but they wanted me to buy them at a very expensive rate. I can't remember the exact dollar, but I know that they would sell only a small portion of them, like a ziplok baggy full, for WAY more than they were worth. Plus at this point, my wedding budget was spent.

ONE florist I called told me that and I asked what they do with the petals if no one buys them. They proceeded to tell me that they decorate their PARKING LOT with them or throw them away. My response? "Wouldn't you rather them be used at my wedding that under the tires of cars?!" They didn't find that amusing or convincing.

But, "throw them away" got us thinking. At dark, we could just go to the dumpsters behind these florist shops and get the roses that they have thrown away. GREAT IDEA!

So that is exactly what we did. For two or three nights in a row. We went to like I don't even know how many florists, I know probably around 5. Each night we went to 1 or 2. Because it took us that long, and because we were TERRIFIED!!!

We were at this one florist, and we were in their back alley--the back alley was VERY scary. I think we were standing on something to try to reach into the dumpster, because, well, we're both short. And into the alley we see headlights. We immediatly duck down and hide. In comes this very scary looking van. You know the kind they have in movies where they are kidnapping someone. We were really freaked. I think they just turned around and left. Of course, we're dying laughing at ourselves, because even we realize how crazy it was.

When we started, we were opening up trash bags and looking for the roses. By the time it was all said and done, we were just taking the trash bags we saw roses in and putting them in the car. We took them back to my apartment and sat on my front porch and pulled rose petals off of every rose in those bags. Now, I know what you're thinking--GROSS right.

Not really, the bags we took really only had flowers in them, there wasn't really any othe trash in there, just whole boquets of roses in the trash---and they wouldn't even give me the petals! I showed them ;-).

We managed to get quite a bit of petals, but not quite enough. I was able to buy the remaining petals at a decent rate from a local shop owner who I think felt sorry for me. lol.

So there is the story of how I got the rose petals for my wedding reception. It was well worth it, they were very pretty and I loved them!!!

And only a best friend would endure something like this with you, remain you friend afterwards, and be willing to laugh about it years later....THANKS FRIEND!!

WW update...

So, it's been two full weeks. We're still doing great. We've found some really great low point versions of many foods we love. BJ has lost 9lbs and I have lost 7lbs. It feels good to be doing so well on this.
The best part? I haven't had any headaches since I started back. For those of you who know me, I get awful headaches that are probably a version of a migrane, EVERY DAY. Literally, I would get a headache every day. Without fail.

Well, I'm happy to report I have had only 1 minor headache in two weeks. It's obvious it was food related, which I have suspected for many years, but didn't know how to solve it. So either, I was eating something my body didn't like or I wasn't eating something that my body needed. I have a feeling it had to do with my sugar intake.

So anyway, we're doing good.

Here's a month old picture, because I've not taken any this month (GASP!!!!)

Throwback Thursday

Ironically this photo was taken about 500 yards from my current home. I drive by it everyday. That wheel is still there. In the exact same place.

Hello--

Hello--

Yes, I am actually writing a post. A post that is not about blog headers. Sorry, I've been pretty busy with those lately and haven't really had time to do much else.

But, here's the latest news.

--I have applied for a different job. I had an interview on Wednesday and I should hear something this coming week. It's a job I really want and it would give me a lot more time at home with Jordan. But, if I don't get it, I am okay. This job has pretty much consumed my every thought since November. In the last week I have gone back and forth in my head about all the pros and cons and well, I prayed for peace and now I am just okay with whatever happens.

--I have started back on Weight Watchers. Yes, I know you have heard this before, but this time I have a completely different attitude and BJ is doing it with me and that is really helping me. We've been on it all week and I've lost 4lbs. BJ has lost 5lbs. Just tonight, we made these yummy weight watchers chimichangas for only 5 points. All week I've stayed well within my points and have not eaten anything bad. I've been pretty good about drinking my 64ozs of water most days. I walked one night after work (which I am doing every night starting Tuesday--Monday is a Holiday).

--Jordan is NOT sick. LOL. She has a runny nose that so far has just remained that. She is talking more and more everyday. Here are some of the things that she is saying:

Mama & Dada of course
Car
Dog
Bo-our dog
ZoZo-our other dog, Zoe
Gaba--which we think is G'ma
Baby--which she says AMAZINGLY clear
Bye Bye--also very clear
Hot
Cold & Burr
Shhh (which she puts her finger to her lips and does the whole thing)
Purple
Yellow
Cook--"cookie"
Crack--"cracker"
Bru--Brewster-g'mas dog
BOO--she says this when she's trying to scare you
Nose
all gone
gone
ball
bath
No No
...and probably a lot more I can't think of right now.

She makes the following animal sounds:
dog--"whoof whoof"
Kitty-"meow"
Monkey-"who who who" with the arm motions
Bear--GRRRRR
Cow- "mooo"

She knows where the following body parts are and will show you when you ask her:
eye
nose
mouth
tongue
teeth
ear
hair
hands
feet
toes

Aside from all that, she is doing some more really cute stuff! She does this thing that looks like she is steering a car--but I think she is dancing. She also moves her arms like she is swimming--she covers her mouth when she coughs. She puts her arms up in the air and says "whooo." She tickles you when you tell her to tickle.

Okay, so what else can I bore you with? Hmmm....how about some pictures?!

Jordan got this cardboard playhouse for Christmas and it is by far her favorite toy!! She RUNS through it and carries stuff into it, she pretty much loves it!!

Here she is with her daddy practicing her "cheerleading" stunts. She does really well and let's him do all sorts of scary things with her!

Throwback Thursday

Okay, but really, I had to throw in a naked baby picture for TT, right?!

See the big red mark?? It's a big scar from me walking up to one of my mom's motorcycle's exhaust pipes while it was still hot! It stayed for years. It went away a while ago though.

This is one of the only pictures that I can say Jordan KIND OF looks like me in. But it's only if you an get past the dark hair. But I can KIND OF see it. lol.

New Header..

I made this header for Amy. I don't know if she has seen it yet, but I think it turned out okay. I don't know how she will feel about it, but maybe she'll like it. I really enjoy doing this kind of thing, but it is sort of time consuming and can be difficult. I'm learning a lot though, and it's pretty fun to get a finished product like this!

I think I should have made the title bigger, but to fix that I'd have to rebuild the whole thing, which I may do, but not tonight.

What do you all think??

How people find my blog--

Ok, so if someone searches google and clicks on my blog from that search, BlogPatrol tells me that someone visited my blog by searching "x." I get various hits on my blog from random google searches. Some make me laugh out loud. I wanted to share.

The number ONE keyword that people google and find my blog is---FUNNY FOTO--and other variations of it. I get at least 3-5 hits per day from someone who googled "funny foto."

Next in line is my friend Jessica McCash, who I would link to here but blogger sucks and that doesn't work right now. She always was more popular than me ;) and now people find me by searching her name. I get about 1 hit per day from someone who searches her name.

Okay, onto the funny ones----Someone actually found my blog by googling the following phrases. Are you ready?

1. braces family blog head gear
2. guitar hero numb finger
3. guitar hero numb fingers
4. guitar hero game + bj's (I don't even want to know!)
5. martha's protoge
6. West Fork Cafe
7. homemade dresses
8. yummmm
9. True hollywood story pink
10. and last but not least... fanny fotos of love (which I really hope was a typo).

Funny Foto Friday

Like this even needs a caption...
